Birth of the work “Island in Peace”

It was born from the encounter of three forces, three moments, three breaths.

A creative implosion where place, music, and gesture united within the same energy.

Everything began in the setting of a 12th-century Romanesque church,

a place steeped in history and silence.

01 First stage (25 min): The performance.

During the opening of the exhibition, a duo performance with drummer Edward Perraud ignited the spark.

The dialogue between rhythm and matter came to life through the Jazz Haïku drum set,

an exceptional instrument I created in 2014.

From this earlier creation emerged the primal energy, a symbolic continuity.

Driven by the intensity of the moment, the gesture became instinctive, animal, guided by spontaneity and lightning inspiration.

In a swift and visceral surge, the form imposed itself:

I traced the work, carved the material, and inlaid the precious wood.

It was a moment of pure intensity, a creative storm where everything aligned: sound, form, and light.

02 Second stage (2 days): Rest.

After the explosion of gesture comes calm.

This pause is essential — it gives the work a chance to breathe, to settle before being continued.

03 Third stage (4 days): Reflection.

Then comes the time for precision and construction.

In this more measured phase, I observe, I listen to what the work whispers.

I refine the colors, the reliefs, the textures, until I find the right balance.

Thus the creative cycle comes to an end: from lightning to serenity, from instinct to meaning.

Island in Peace is born from this transformation.

This film traces the energy, spontaneity and intensity of the decisive moments of the performance,

as well as the birth of the work Ile en Paix.
